For Real Kiwi Adventures

ABout us

As one of Queenstown’s longest running family owned and operated businesses, this local family of industry pioneers and off road champions can take you on the drive of your life.

Bringing you epic Off Road Adventures since 1990!

The beginning...

With the help of my wife Marilyn and our children Brendan, Lachie, Scott and Alanna I started this company in 1989 after two men asked me where they could hire motorcycles.

I took Hans and Ralf on a full day motorcycle adventure the very next day. That was in November 1989 – we began with two motorcycles & one race quad. In the summer of 1990 we added another two bikes and kicked off properly.

From those humble beginnings we have grown to now be the largest Off Road Tour Company in the world, with over 100 buggies, dirt, quad & road bikes, offering Motorcycle, ATV and 4WD tours with our six Toyota Landcruisers, from 1 hour to 21 days.

After 30 years of doing what we love we haven’t lost our focus as we continue to offer real adventures for off road enthusiasts of ALL abilities, from beginner to expert we will give you the ride of your life!

The early days

Meet the family...

"The Boss"

Denis first went into business at the age of 21, plumbing, roofing and drain laying, but decided to change career after the harshness of the late 1980’s so the Big Guy who started riding at 19 decided to embark on taking client on motorcycle tours in November 1989 into historical gold mining sites in the South Island high country. After reading about these sites as a young man and exploring them for many years himself, his love of the area’s history means he wanted to share his knowledge and these amazing stories with his clients.

"The other boss"

Marilyn is now retired from riding but still loves to travel on the back of Denis’s bike touring Europe and New Zealand. Occasionally she will drive on our 4×4 tours. Marilyn is in charge of business administration, full time looking after the family and supporting her children…including Denis.

"The ???"

Scott is a 7 time New Zealand Super-X Champion, consistently places in the top three in New Zealand Moto-X, and has represented New Zealand in Super-X, Moto-X and Enduro. For the last few years, he has represented New Zealand in Moto-X events for the World and British MX1 championships. Scott has represented New Zealand twice at the Motocross des Nation. Scott loves nothing more than riding in his “Hills” and if you’re lucky he will be your guide.

"The Racer"

One of New Zealand’s most talented ATV racers Lachie has also won several Moto-X, Cross Country and Endurance events as well as two Australisia 4 Day Enduro Championship Gold medals. After representing Team New Zealand at the 2006 International Six Day Championship (ISDE) and winning Silver, Lachie had a 3 year break from competition studying at university. Even while studying he competed in the New Zealand 2009 ATV championships winning the Under 425cc Class and coming second in the Open Class at his first attempt at the ATV Championship.

"The 4th son"

Marilyn’s only daughter and treated by Dennis as the fourth son. Alanna was given the same opportunities as the boys and has probably broken more bones than most. Alanna is an extremely talented rider who is no longer competing. She is a very capable young lady on Dirt and Quad bikes. Alanna has just return from her “Big OE” and is enjoying being back at Off Road Adventures doing what she loves.

Alanna Columb

"Tinny"

Tinny loves nothing more than spending his days off practicing wheelie’s and riding with his mates. A little quieter than some other family members Tinny offers humour when you least expect it. Another great Columb guide. After ten years full time guiding he has enjoyed some snow time this winter. Now getting back into his riding and having a blast.
